Kayak - Gran Canaria

This has got to be the most exciting way of admiring the more tranquil and deserted beaches along the south-west coast as well as one or two of the busier ones.

Setting off around 09:30am from your hotel, someone comes to collect you and takes you and the boats, equipment down to Amadores beach.

There’s a quick info talk on safety and technique, you set up the canoe how best suites you and you’re off.

Each canoe is for 2 people and trips usually comprise of small groups of 8 (4 canoes) during the winter and slightly larger groups of 16 (8 canoes) during the summer. There’s a waterproof storage container if you want to take along towels or a camera etc..

From Amadores beach the destination is the sea caves just past Taurito beach,. Half way along there’s a stop by one of the deserted beaches for a swim then on to the caves. These are three interconnected caves which you canoe into.

There’s a lunch stop on neighbouring Taurito beach after that and you’ll be pleased to hear that thanks to the tide and winds the trip back is twice as quick as the trip there.

No special skills or experience of any kind is needed. On our trip the guy in my boat had no rhythm whatsoever, neither of us experience and by the end of the day we were the fastest back having finally got a good technique going. Ladies welcome and also on our trip though this excursion wouldn’t be suitable for anyone with any type of upper body or back complaints as it is a little physically demanding.

You’re back on Amadores beach around 2pm and back at your accommodation around an hour after that.
